REVIEW

I bought several of these books in this series after getting The Nutcracker for my son for his first Christmas. He’s a baby, but he loves when I read these to him. And if I have to read a bunch of children’s books every night over and over again they might as well be pretty and pleasant to listen to. I have to agree with some other comments that the storytelling is sometimes abrupt or awkward, but like….isn’t that true for most picture books? The passages are a little wordy and don’t always keep baby’s attention so I sometimes do some ad libbing to get to “the good part” (the music). But, again, he’s a baby. He’s now about 16 months old. He has definite favorite movements and will dance and/or jump up and down in his crib during the exciting ones. Sometimes it looks like he’s conducting. Super adorable. Unfortunately I have to hide the books from him because when he tries to read/play with them himself he gets a little aggressive and can easily rip the pages, even under close supervision. But I don’t want to tell him he can’t look at them. He likes turning to the pages that go with his favorite movements (of course I always have to push the button when he does). Plus the books are just super pretty and look really nice if you can display them. I really really really wish they would also make toddler friendly versions, like board books with the panel on the side that the kids can push. This would require even more simplified storytelling and pared down illustrations but I think it would be the greatest thing ever.
