This book of essays was published in 1992 but is as important and as readable as it was then. I asked my book group, "How did I become an educated adult without knowing about Baron von Humboldt and Louis Agassiz?" I love to learn, and this book taught me. Beautiful writing -- David McCullough is sorely missed! As soon as I finished the book I gave it to my 14 year old grand-twins because I know they will learn so much and enjoy the adventure through history. Beautiful book.
