REVIEW

Danger, Will Robinson: The Full Mumy by Bill Mumy Just finished this refreshing memoir by Bill Mumy. Mumy gives a memoir of his life in snapshots, bouncing from one decade to the other as opposed to a linear recounting. Which in my opinion adds layers to his story. No ghost writer here, just Bill Mumy talking and reflecting on a life well lived. This isn’t a tell all, shovel the dirt exposition. What it is is a man reflecting on a varied and interesting life mostly lived in the Los Angeles Basin. Beyond his early movies, his television history there is his fascinating music history including the famous or infamous Barnes and Barnes. Although he touches on his time on Lost in Space, it isn’t in depth since he just revised another work with Angela Cartwright providing a scrapbook approach to those years. Mumy writes from the heart. He discusses a mistake in his life not going into detail but the reader understands the depth of that mistake. The reader also walks away understanding the depth of forgiveness and understanding he received. Most of the book is about lifelong friends and the good they had together. At certain times you learn who Bill Mumy did not get along with or doesn’t really admire although they worked together. It is handle in a mature almost Buddhist fashion. Stating the facts from his side as to why he doesn’t particularly admire the person. No condemnation, no “he said, she said” just laying out the incident without more comment. It becomes a fascinating read as you are immersed in a world of television, movie and music celebrities, all from the perspective of a now senior Will Robinson. A Will Robinson who appreciates the life he has led and the opportunities presented.
